Hey friends,

The next Really Really Free Market is a meager 3 weeks away on Saturday June 20th at The Earth House from 2:30 - 6:00...as always.

We know garage sale season is upon us, but hey, in case you purchased something at a garage sale that you now have buyers remorse over, do not fret! Simply bring that unwanted item to the free market where we are sure it will find a happy home. Heck, we've already done that ourselves!

We want to apologize to everyone who attended last month, for there were no vegan desserts for the taking. We were very busy leading up to the market and simply didn't have the time to help you break your diets. We'll be sure to correct that oversight next month. Feel free to help us in that regard as well. Actually, feel free to help in any way you are inspired. Whether it's promotion (always awesome!), baking food, bringing items, performing a service, etc. You know everyone always appreciates it!

6 months and who's counting? :)

A few of you have inquired as to whether the RRFM will take place this Saturday and rest assured IT IS! And not only is it happening but it is also the 6th month running for the Indy RRFM. Thanks to everyone who comes each month to contribute goods and services...without you...well, without you we instigators would be eating piles of homemade vegan goodness all by ourselves!

Now, speaking of instigating and questions of the RRFM taking place...let's all have a little chat for a moment. We, the instigators, have been absurdly busy as of late, which is why there have been less updates. While we apologize for not posting sooner, we would also like to take this opportunity to point out that we only *instigate* the RRFM, we do not own it. This means that you, fellow RRFMers, have the power to instigate as well! Until we are told otherwise by Kate Lamont, the RRFM will always happen at Earth House from 2:30-6pm on the third Saturday of EVERY month! What does this mean for you? It means that regardless of whether or not the original instigators of the RRFM make blogposts or send you an e-mail, the RRFM will alway happen at the same time, same place. YOU make the RRFM happen, not us! We only gave it a little push and then supply kick-ass vegan goodies and mood music! That's all we do! Really, folks! So, let's ALL take ownership and let's all be proud that we've kept this ball rolling for SIX MONTHS!

That being said...get off of your computers and go enjoy the day! We will see you Saturday afternoon!

We wanted to remind you (yet again) that this month's Really Really Free Market will take place on Saturday from 2:30 - 6:00 at The Earth House.

Our friend and continuous participant Anna (she gives the awesome massages) sent out this email to her list and we wanted to reproduce it here. Thanks for the mention Anna!

We had such a success last Saturday with massage by donation! All the appointments were filled and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I can do 8 hours of massage without keeling over and without having that last massage turn out... less than adequate. :D

Everyone has been doing a good job of figuring out what donation means to them. I've had monetary donations ranging from $10 to $70 and all sorts of amazing trades: a bag of groceries, a memory foam pad for my massage table, a session with a photographer to add graphics to my website, and more! I really love it when people offer up in trade that thing that they are best at. An herbalist friend has offered homemade herbal oil; Earth House's resident chef has whipped up some truly spectacular meals for me. Thank you so much to everyone for their thoughtful donations!

Come down to Earth House this Saturday for our monthly Really Really Free Market! Bring items or services that you have to offer and browse the bounty of really free offerings from 2:30-6pm every 3rd Saturday. I'll be doing massage by donation in the morning, and I still have a few appointments available. In the afternoon, from 4-6 I'll still be making my chair massage available, just like former free markets. So claim those early appointments! I still have 10am, 11am and 12pm. Then hang out in Earth House's comfy living room, er, cafe, and enjoy the afternoon's free bazaar.

The free market is my favorite day of the month, and I can't wait to see you all there!

There are a number of new emails on our list from the last Really Really Free Market and we felt compelled to send out a big Hello to y'all...so Hello! The next RRFM is two weeks from now on April 18th. I know a handful of us will be downtown for the Susan G Komen Race for The Cure that takes place earlier in the day, so if you plan to be in the area, do stop in to the RRFM while you are around town...and bring along some friends! Hey friends,

We are pleased to announce that the Really Really Free Market has managed to avoid the downward trajectory that many well-intentioned projects seem to take in this city. To be honest, we were a little concerned after last month's turnout, but this past Saturday was simply awesome. We saw so many people and so many new faces. We want to extend another thanks to everyone that spread the word, came to the market, brought items, took items, offered services and received services. It was a great time, the energy was good and we are really looking forward to next month.

Specifically we want offer our appreciation to the Earth House collective for being so cool and helpful, Blythe for giving valuable health consultations, Matt and Stephanie of Eeshipana for coming back with their survival spread, Anna for supplying another round of great massages and everyone else who participated. It's the combined effort of every single person who makes the RRFM so awesome.

We'll keep sending out updates for next month, but we've already got some new services in the works that some of y'all might really need, however we want full confirmation before we put anyone out there.

Nation-wide give-away event (Curb Day) is Saturday, May 16, 2009

On Saturday, May 16, 2009, people all over will participate in “Curb Day” by bringing unwanted (but still valuable) items to their curbs for others to cart away for free.

All of us own extra “stuff” – things that have value, but not to us. Overall, there are millions of items out there – good stuff, just wasting away, cluttering households. In today’s economy, especially, many others would love to own these items.

On May 16 (or the night of the 15th), please bring your unwanted valuables to your curb for others to pick up. And if you need something, take a walk in your neighborhood – you might just find it for free.

Please use good sense. Do not donate weapons of any kind. No chemicals and nothing dangerous at all. Nothing illegal either. No food or alcohol, please.

Do NOT put garbage out on Curb Day. If you’re not sure if something is valuable or truly junk, ask for some opinions, or don’t put it out.

Finally, drive carefully that weekend. Be alert for vehicles stopping quickly. Stay in the left lane if you’re not stopping.

Hi friends,

We apologize for the lack of consistent communication but we have been quite busy tending to other responsibilities right now. Rest assured, we are still working on the RRFM and spreading the word as best we can. The next RRFM is in 3 weeks and we look forward to seeing everyone there. For this month we really want to stress your involvement, whether that is bringing goods, items and services, or getting the word out about the RRFM to others. In the past we have been bringing a considerable amount of clothing that has gotten left behind, but as we needed the room in our garage we decided to donate a considerable portion of that clothing pile to a needing non-profit organization. With that, the original pile of goods will not be there at the start of this month's RRFM, although we will still have a number of items to bring ourselves. So yes, it would be awesome if you brought along your unwanted goods and helped us start the RRFM off early.

Speaking of early, this past month we tried to set up ahead of time so as to avoid any scheduling conflict and to simply have everything ready by two o'clock, but what happened was that a lot of good stuff was claimed way before the RRFM even started. We are glad the items found homes for sure, but we hoped having good and plentiful items on display at 2 would foster an exciting communal environment. In the future, we will make sure to set up closer to 2 o'clock in order to avoid this from occurring again.

Also, be on the lookout for Branches magazine. This month's theme is "Abundance" and an article about the RRFM is in there. Check it out.

Finally, we unveiled our unofficial mascot Autonomous the Octopus in coloring sheet form. The following are submissions by some of the Really Really Free Marketeers that were in attendance. We are quite pleased by the results. Until next time friends.

We got confirmation that Seamstress extraordinaire Cheryl will be bringing her sewing machine of death..err, regeneration?...to the RRFM. Heck, you might even find the almost perfect item that day at the RRFM, but it's got a tiny little hole or something. Well, fear not! Dear Friends,

We are deeply saddened to share the news that Ethan Runnells, who many of you surely met at the past two RRFM's, died in a canoeing accident Saturday evening. Ethan, along with his friend Matt, was a participant and enthusiast of the RRFM. They brought along their wilderness survival skills presentations and tools table to both RRFM's. Ethan personally expressed his appreciation of and excitement at attending the next RRFM this coming Saturday. The image of Ethan magically making fire by friction, a special talent of his, graces our current promotional flyers. Ethan's contributions to the Indianapolis area extended far beyond the reaches of the RRFM, but we were specifically made much better by his presence. We will miss him tremendously.

Some of us will be creating a participatory memorial for Ethan this Saturday where you can leave your thoughts, appreciations, condolences, thanks, etc. for him, his friends and family. If you would like to show your appreciation in some way this Saturday, we certainly encourage you to do so however you feel inspired.

We already miss you Ethan.

Kaiton is an awesome, genuine guy and always has his hand in a creative musical venture, from creating his aural soundscapes to making scores for movies to playing straight-up sets around town and we are super excited to have him play for us at the RRFM. Winter...finally.

Have you ever noticed that when the skies dump piles of snow upon us, the goodwill of everyone holed up in their homes tends to double itself? Neighbors leave their warm homes to dig out cars, shovel paths for the mail carrier, push cars stuck in drifts and offer any services that help those trapped in the beautiful mess. We'd say the RRFM is an extension of this sort of cooperation more than vice-versa, but we are glad to play a part regardless. The goal, for us anyways, is to always seek out new ways to extend this obligation-free sort of cooperation, without extending a hand for payment, but only for the satisfaction it gives to everyone involved. Consider that reward if you are stuck or know others who are stuck still tomorrow.

Ok, so maybe y'all are more readers than you are talkers. That's cool. We just hear so many good, interesting stories DURING the RRFM that we thought it would be neat to share some of them to those who couldn't make it. That's ok, as long as the stories keep coming we'll be happy.

Speaking of the next RRFM, we think we might have a DJ slotted to entertain us through at least part of the day. Also, some of you may have noticed the space issue that developed last month. Part of that was due to a larger attendance and part of it was due to, well, let's just say a "dominant" personality. Regardless, this month the floor will be opened up a little bit more and the possibility of extending the RRFM into the upstairs might also be available.

In other happenings, Autonomous the Octopus (our RRFM mascot) is being fleshed out, so to speak, and we'll hopefully have something to post in the coming weeks.

Enough about us...what about you?

With two successful months of RRFMing under our belts (and many more to come) we, the instigators, find ourselves sitting around reflecting on all of the amazing items and services that have been freely given and graciously received. We've talked amongst ourselves, with others and no doubt filled your inboxes with plenty of updates regarding all of this. You know what we saw come through the RRFMs, you've heard what we feel were the highlights of the events. Now, however, we want to hear your side of the story! What really cool items did you see pass through the Earth House doors on the third Saturday of the last two months? What did you really want but couldn't cross the room fast enough to get to it before someone else called it their own? Did you enjoy the atmosphere? What was the highlight of your experience at the RRFM? What would make your experience even better than before? Twice as free!

Is it truthful to say this past weekend's Really Really Free Market was twice as good as the first one? Well, whether it is or not, we're saying it anyways! At the very least, we avoided the dreaded sophmore slump.

Who knows how the forces of momentum work, especially in this city, but some dynamics certainly came together to make this RRFM even better than the last. Credit must be given where credit is due though, so we'd like to thank everyone that came out, everyone that spread the word to their friends and on their blogs (really, keep that up!), and probably an extra thanks is due to The Nuge for his article in NUVO that surely brought in a substantial number of people we would not have reached otherwise. Again, WHATEVER came together to foster the environment of the event this time, we surely enjoyed it all! We're sorry if you missed out, but we'll be back next month, same bat place, same bat time.

As to the specifics of the event, we found it quite amusing that the self-imposed restrictions people felt at simply TAKING FREE STUFF the first time around were seemingly non-existent this past Saturday. Last month we had to assure everyone that they could find something they wanted and walk home with it, and even then we heard many mutterings of "I feel guilty taking this" slip from their lips. This time though, the process was well understood and items were being snatched up as soon as they were put on the floor...and even before they left some trunks in the parking lot! We were very pleased that the sense of obligation and apprehension some internalize was cast aside so as to freely share in the communal pot of goods. We hoped to take photos of the items and keep a running list of what others brought, but with so many people, everything was being picked up right after it was put down. One marketeer who had brought a box of computer supplies placed them on the floor then went to his car to get one more item and on his return found that absolutely everything he brought was now in someone else's hands waiting to be hooked up and put to good use! This happened quite frequently.

Although we couldn't keep an exact tally of the goods that were brought and services offered, here is a list we can pull from memory:

We must say, one of the stand out items this market was the boxes of Longs Glazed doughnuts that everybody went nuts over. Those were devoured before most marketeers even realized they were there. The rush on the box of knives was quite amusing as well, once the word spread.

In all, we have to declare this RRFM TWICE as successful as the last RRFM. Why twice? Why not? Certainly we at least doubled the number of attendees, estimating approximately 400 people coming through the doors throughout the day, and the number and variety of goods was quite exciting as well. Let's not get wrapped up in the spectacle of numbers though. Ultimately, the general energy of the marketeers held the most value to us as everyone seemed to be in great spirits, the many children playing with the toys non-stop (then taking them home!), the great conversations had about providing for others and making plans to share services outside the RRFM, the spreading passions to reignite similarly focused projects and finally the plotting on how to get involved come next month. We can't wait to see where this continues to go.

We leave you with the following quote from this past Saturday.

"Really? Seriously?" - as in, really? seriously? you're giving THAT away? just before excitedly taking a rice cooker back to their car. We suspect this interaction took place more than a handful of times.

FREE Music Together demonstration time

There have been several people inquire as to what time to expect the FREE Music Together demonstration class. Well, we now have a time set up and the class will be held upstairs at 3pm. If anyone is interested in bringing their children this is a great opportunity to learn about Music Together. Mandi Shull will be teaching the class and she asks that all who plan to attend please bring their own instruments. We will have a small basket with a limited number of shakers, bells and other such music makers for those who do not or cannot bring anything. Come join the fun!

Further, we are mind-readers. We know exactly what is going to go through your mind this Saturday.

You'll be thinking. "Golly G is it freezing out! I mean, it's officially Indiana winter cold. Not just cold, but longjohn's, under tights, under a snow suit, under a hazmat suit just to get the mail cold." You'll also be thinking, "I can't take this anymore. I've been cooped up for days now in fear of my fingernails falling off due to exposure in the winter air for more than 3 nanoseconds. I want to go somewhere!" Then you'll check the weather and realize it's actually a balmy 32 degrees! It's not dangerously cold at all! When you are finished there, go grab a bite to eat for lunch, then head on over to the Really Really Free Market at 237 N. East Street from 2:30 - 6:00, held inside the beautiful, warm and beautifully warm Earth House. Seriously, it'll be toastier in there than the Stay-Puft Marshmallow man after the Ghostbusters got a hold of him and crossed the streams. It's gonna be awesome and we'd love to have you along.

The fantastical Jaclyn,
presenting an Afro Modern Dance from 3pm - 4pm, consisting of a warmup, coordinating exercises, torso work, and a combo ending. Lovers of dance and movement won't want to miss this.

And now presenting..

a 30 minute Music Together demonstration class for families and kids between the ages of 0 - 5. Music Together consists of singing, movement, music and dancing. Bring your own instruments for the musical portion (or hopefully find some at the RRFM beforehand!).

As you can see, the schedule is already shaping up to surpass the last events activities. Do come out and join in the fun, and bring some of your own as well. We still have limitless room for more activities, presentations, demonstrations, discussions, etc., so get in touch if you'd like us to do some pre-event promotion for you.

As last month's participants can tell you, we had LOTS of clothes to offer. There will, again, be plenty of clothes to sift through, but keep in mind that there are plenty of children and kids clothes for anyone you think might be in need of some. In addition to the very nice women's clothes offered, we are also hoping more men's clothes will be brought. Some people picked up the nice men's clothes that were there, but they disappeared quickly. Do consider bringing men's clothes as well..they are certainly desired.

Hello friends,

In our recent post-RRFM downtime we've been scheming and brainstorming for the next one. We are still working on our plans, but for the time being we are looking to solicit for services of all kinds, whether that's a skillshare (wilderness survival, repairs, cooking, juggling, home-brewing, fire-eating, etc. etc.), theory workshops (horizontalism, gender liberation, tactic/strategy, etc. etc.) or plain ol' offering of your talents (hair styling, massage, yoga, burrito making, birthing consultation, nose picking, counseling, legal advice, etc. etc.). If you have talents/skills/desires as related to these, we'd love for you to show up on the 17th and offer them. However, it would also be pretty awesome if you contacted us (via email) ahead of time so we could promote your workshop/service.

Regarding talents, we are certainly open to musicians, puppeteers, whatever, playing during the RRFM. The Earth House has a PA and microphones available so all that is taken care of. If you'd like to perform, please contact us ahead of time as well (or just show up!).

In our efforts to make this one of the best and most diverse RRFM's in the country we are hoping to reach out to various communities who would be interested in participating. With that in mind, an artist friend of ours expressed a desire to see more artists bring their work to give to other art afficionados and artists themselves. We also thought this was a fantastic idea. If you have any good ideas on getting the word out to this (or any) community, please let us know. Furthermore, if you have ideas of other individuals or communities who would be interested in participating, please let us know, or request flyers from us so you can do the promotion yourself if you'd like.

Speaking of promotion, we aren't sure when it is going to print, but we believe the story on the past RRFM might run in tomorrow's (31st) edition of NUVO newsweekly. Be on the lookout for that.

Finally, in one of our more excited brainstorming sessions, we think we've created an unofficial mascot for the Indy RRFM. Ladies and Germs, we introduce to you...

Autonomous the Octopus! (visual to come later)

Just think of the possibilities- homemade Autonomous the Octopus dolls made from recycled fabric, Autonomous the Octopus coloring books for the kids, Autonomous the Octopus t-shirts screenprinted during a RRFM skillshare, Autonomous the Octopus flamethrowers! Uh..well, maybe not that last one considering our debacle with the smoke alarms at The Earth House.

Ok, that's enough for now friends. Keep brainstorming on your end. Spread the word to your buddies, on your blogs, in smoke signals, with your skywriting bi-planes, through mental telepathy. Whatever! We'll keep up on our end and continue updating the site (soon to be updated with links and dates).

Really Really Free Market recap

The post prior to this wasn't sure what else to say before the event, but since the 'Free Market ended yesterday there is so much to say that we don't even know where to start. Expect a few rambling posts about the 'Free Market the next few days.

Needless to say, the first Really Really Free Market was a resounding success, far surpassing any of the instigators' expectations. People arrived before the start time and no one really stopped coming until just before the event ended. We never even attempted to keep a tally of how many people came, but the event drew participants from start to finish and the energy of the room never died.

We attribute some of this turnout success to unexpected (but appreciated) promotion by individual blogs, message board posts, word of mouth and unsolicited mentions in both the free newsweekly (NUVO) and daily corporate newspaper (Indy Star). We actually didn't even know we were mentioned in the Star until the middle of the event that day.

As evidenced by the amount of people who contributed and came out to the event, this 'Free Market is an idea whose time has obviously come. The appeal of a 'Free Market truly cuts through all sectors of society regardless of political/religious affiliation, cultural background or economic class as evidenced by the diversity of people who showed up on Saturday. Considering the aspects of a RRFM are practiced unknowingly by families and neighbors every time they gather in block parties, holiday dinners or sport games, it's no big step to initiate it publicly amongst strangers without a hitch. Or at least one would think.

Our biggest obstacle in the promotion and practice of the RRFM was convincing others that, YES, everything is truly FREE. Free, without a sales promotion, without a pyramid scheme, without trade, without barter, without ownership, but plain and simple free. We tried our best to continuously push the "free" concept in our emails, blog posts and word of mouth, but even on the day of the event others took it on themselves to publish the event as a bartering market....which, again....it's not. We even had a friend almost NOT attend the yoga session at the RRFM because they thought it was a paying class. We certainly noticed a hesitation amongst participants when the RRFM started, but after a little prodding and encouragement, people willingly dropped their inhibitions and partook of the goods. We were informed that even when some people started taking items they would sheepishly mention "This is weird. I sort of feel guilty." And repeatedly some of us were approached with the question, "So, how does this all work? If I want something, do I need to claim it or fill something out?" Our response was simply, "Nope. Just take it!"

Although we felt a small tinge of frustration that the concept that EVERYTHING IS FREE wasn't being so readily accepted, we pulled ourselves back in perspective and realized, this is the very reason we started this, to break people of the notion that in this world dominated by the capitalist paradigm that nothing is free and there is always a catch, but instead, yes, THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES. We can practice another way and do so without restriction. After all, this RRFM is the perfect opportunity to prove the possibility of cooperation and horizontalism, amongst so many other basic ideals. Soon enough, people caught on and visited the rows and rows of free goods multiple times to see if they missed anything they might have wanted.

Speaking of, for those of you that didn't attend, you might be wondering what kind of stuff was offered. Well, we made a handy dandy little list for you. Here goes.

Clothes, shoes, an imac computer, a typewriter, both a kid and adult drumset, vegan desserts, groceries, stereos, toys, books, radical literature/posters/stickers, fabric, video's/dvd's, a bread maker, luggage, chairs, paint, magazines, games, a child car seat, bike parts, cups/glasses/silverware, a polaroid camera, picnic basket, sleeping bag, comic books, a slide projector, a TV, a bike, etc. etc.

Then there were the services...

Tarot card readings
Pencil portrait drawings from photos
A demo on primitive fire making
Bike repair
Portrait photography
A free placenta encapsulation offer
A yoga class (also a big hit)
A wilderness survival presentation table

So yeah, this RRFM certainly avoided the potential "dumping ground" of undesirables (items, not people!) that can plague events like this and we thank everyone who attended, put on a demonstration or brought items to share. The organizers were thanked repeatedly for putting on the event, but it certainly wasn't us. It was truly everyone that showed up and made the event what it was/is.

Speaking of what the event IS, we have another month until the next one. There was such a good environment at this event that most people said they were going to return next month and this time with more stuff to offer, not to mention they offered to tell their friends as well. We really expect next month to be even better than this month, fortunately we have more room to expand within the Earth House and we'd love it if we could use those other beautiful areas.

Obviously we can't promise anything this far in advance, but we did get verbal confirmation that the Wilderness folks are going to come back each month and offer another demo. When they tell us exactly what their plans are we'll let everyone know what skills they will be teaching in advance. We were also told the massage therapist will be returning as well. We also plan on courting more individuals for services and hopefully some live music (conversation enhancing styles of course). As always, if you have anything you want to offer or know of others with skills some people might be interested in, please get them in touch. We'd love to see a couple hair stylists show up and offer haircuts to participants or other activities as such.

It was also brought to our attention by an artist friend of ours that they would love to see more artists come and offer their work, as most artists enjoy collecting each others pieces, but often don't have the money to buy them. We hope to tap into this culture and see if there is any interest in participating. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Oh, there was one more problem with the RRFM I should mention. We almost burned down the building. KIdding! But during the fire making demonstration, the kindling started to smolder and the amount of smoke generated was certainly cause for concern. Sure enough, the smoke alarms went off and an Earth House member arrived just in time to punch in the code to silence them. It was a temporarily worrisome, but quite amusing moment in an already high-energy environment. We'll take more precautions next time.

Finally, again we want to thank everyone who made this event what it is. We can't wait to see you at future RRFM's and see where this thing takes us all.

Well, the day is here and we don't know what else to say except see you tomorrow afternoon! Keep your day open for the Really Really Free Market and bring along some friends at the last minute!

Some of us will be there early setting up, but officially everything kicks off at 2:30. If you haven't visited the Earth House yet, it is a beautiful and spacious environment with newly refinished hardwood floors. If you are bringing along items to offer you have a few display options. You can lay them out on the ground like a standard market or you can set them up on any of the tables we might have available, or if you want to bring your own table that is fine as well.

Hey friends,

We're just a handful of days away from the inaugural Indy Really Really Free Market, and we say "inaugural" because we certainly don't intend on this being the first and last, but hope the momentum of this kick-off RRFM carries on to fuller and more rewarding RRFM's into the year. The word on the street is that attendance is going to be pretty awesome. Let's hope the numbers carry through and we all create a vibrant experience of communalism and gift-giving.

We've been asked by a number of individuals about leaving items at the RRFM in case you have to leave early. We want to reiterate that the location of the RRFM is only a locale for RRFM and we have no agreement to store leftover items at The Earth House. Therefore, we kindly request that everyone remain responsible for anything you bring, though feel free to ask others if they will take responsibility for any leftovers in case you have to leave early. Some of the organizers/instigators are also willing to take extra items home if that is needed. But hey, let's hope everything you bring finds a needed user!!

Hey friends,

We are just about one week away from the RRFM kick-off and we're pretty excited about its potential. Some immediate friends of ours who can't make it to this first one have given us lots of items to bring, so there will be no shortage of goods for people to search through. We do want to reiterate, there is no obligation to bring anything to the RRFM, but if you want to participate in some way, but are short on ideas for items or services, you could always bake some cookies! Regardless, your presence will be your present.

Speaking of contributions, we have been contacted by an interested individual who is offering massage, tarot card readings and Reiki healing. There is also the potential that some wilderness survival folks who teach free classes in Rocky Ripple on Sundays will hold a skillshare or some sort of "wilderness survival 101" presentation.

Aside from that we have clothes, electronics, food, tools, literature, household items and all kinds of other goodies...and that's just on our end!

It has been brought to our attention that the Earth House location isn't a tourist landmark of any kind (though it should be!) and its whereabouts are something of a mystery. With that in mind, the following should hopefully get you there. We will do our best to have a sign/banner posted on the corner as the entrance isn't in a prominent location (around back).

New Poster and update

Hey friends,

We've had some individuals come forward and offer awesome activities/services for all attending the RRFM. So far we have a yoga class led by a certified yoga instructor, chair massages by a massage therapist, placenta encapsulation by Placenta Girls, student consultation from a nurse practitioner/midwifery student, portrait photos by a professional photographer, bicycle repair by a skilled mechanic and surely more to schedule or simply show up! Just to clarify, we've had these individuals agree to perform their services ahead of time, but there is no reservation process for this event. If you have anything you want to offer, just show up with supplies and a sign and we're all good to go!

Also, we have created a new poster for the event that we will be printing and distributing around town. If you would like to help advertise for the event, email us and we will send you a PDF of the flyer. Further, if anyone has access to free copies, please get in touch as we would like help in avoiding the costs of copying these flyers.

Umm...Wow. Imagine our surprise when we opened NUVO today to discover the Really Really Free Market was listed in the Social Justice Calendar page, without any doing on our part to get it there. I guess a good idea spreads on its own huh?! Regardless, thanks NUVO!

We are currently working on a new RRFM poster that we'll post when it's finished. This one is going to utilize the current economic "oopsy" with a little more teeth. We hope you like it. Participation confusion

Hello friends,

We are constantly thrilled to be getting such great feedback about the RRFM coming up, however, maybe the structure of the (dis)organization has made things a little confusing as to how the RRFM functions.

We were recently informed that a couple people have dropped off items (a large batch of clothing?) at The Earth House last week. As awesome as we think it is that people want to contribute to the RRFM, we also need to clarify that although the RRFM is being held AT the Earth House, it isn't fundamentally an activity OF the Earth House Collective, therefore we would request that you do not use the Earth House as a drop off point for any items as we have not established any area for storage of such items.

We certainly don't want to discourage anyone from getting involved, so if you absolutely can't make it to this first one (or any following RRFM's) and want to arrange for someone else to bring your items to the market, please send us an email and we will make arrangements for you.

Furthermore, although a RRFM has the potential to ease the burden of acquiring physical necessities by offering "stuff" up for free, another one of its more rewarding components is the act of communing. We hope that at a RRFM, instead of just getting rid of "stuff", that you would also like to meet others, experience what it is to give and take freely without obligation, and possibly consider how groups and individuals can extend this type of gift economy and social liberation to all aspects of our lives.

Until we figure all that out, we respectfully request that you do not leave items at the Earth House and instead email us for pick up arrangments if possible.

Participation is vital to the success of the RRFM. Spreading the word about the coming RRFM at today's Alternative Gift Fair was a resounding success, with buzz for the event building and great responses to the flyers all around. We passed out a good number of flyers, have another batch of email addresses to add to our already substantial list and received great verbal response for the event. We possibly have a few "vendors" in the bag to contribute services, including a portrait photographer. In all everything went better than planned.

plans and confusion

Hey friends,

The Indy Really Really Free Market is still rolling on as we are only one month away from the inaugural event. We've made a couple flyers (that have been posted on this blog) and have begun distributing them around town. We have also been sending out emails to our lists and to those of you that signed up at the Food Coop presentation a few weeks back. We'll continue to send out emails as the date draws closer. Be on the lookout for flyers and if you'd like to hand some out yourself, contact us through the email (indyrrfm@gmail.com) and we'll see about getting you some. Remember, word of mouth is the quickest and easiest way to get people interested. With that in mind, there has been some confusion with the Really Really Free Market date.

A group of unfortunate souls had a difficult time finding the location on their way to the supposed RRFM last Friday. The exact address is on the flyers and the dates are correct as well. The RRFM will only be held on the third SATURDAY of every month starting in December. I don't know how the mix up occurred, but there was no RRFM in November and it wasn't on a Friday. Regardless, that situation has been remedied and we hope to see you all next month.

Do come in any regard, but also consider any items or skills you might possess to share with others. The success and vitality of a RRFM is dependent on the type of atmosphere we all create together, so do keep that in mind. Whatever your passion, (cooking, repairs, art, massage, etc.) or whatever items you'd like to pass along (computer, cookware, bikes, etc.) please come to the RRFM on Saturday December 20th.
